Garry Jackson

Born 27th June 1978, Garry spent his formative years in Coalville, Leicestershire. At the age of 8 he decided to take up the double bass, inspired by his Grandfather who was also a double bassist. During his teens he performed regularly with orchestras, big bands, choirs and rock bands, also moving to electric bass at 14.

In 1996 he was awarded a bursary from The Michael Tippett Musical Foundation, with which he used to study with world renowned bassist Herbie Flowers. He moved north in 1997 to study at Leeds College of Music, gaining a BA (Hons) in Jazz Studies. He was awarded the Fred and Ethel Tolsen Memorial prize for strings by Leeds College of Music in 2000, also being a finalist in the Perrier Young Jazz Awards as part of the Chris Isaac Quartet.

He has worked professionally as a bassist since 2000, performing with such artists as:
Michael Abene, Howard Alden, Lynne Arriale, Guy Barker, Alan Barnes, Jonathan Gee, Herb Geller, Jeanne Gies, Guthrie Govan, John Horler, Adrian Ingram, Julian Joseph, Barry Kernfeld, Peter King, Tina May, Jim Mullen, Mark Nightingale, Dave Newton, Dave O Higgins, Gary Potter, Don Rendell, Martin Shaw, John Surman, Bobby Wellins and Roy Williams.
